I watch my Dad with awe and pride
As the streets of Goa he does glide
He grins away and nonchalantly zooms
The finish line in the far distance looms
He doesn’t seem to sweat or even tire
The whole race will come down to the wire
Each step’s more powerful than the last
The half way mark he has long passed
He’s getting closer, but so are the rest
Come on Daddy, be the best!!
His strides are full of spirit and grace
It looks more like heats than a race
Will he be first?? Will he come third??
All the worms to the early bird
Faster, faster, he closes them down
A hundred metres from the crown!!
Only one more guy standing in his way
“Win, Dad!!” I fervently pray
With a final step, with one last look
Dad and The Dude take the ribbon of its hook
After moments of tension, the results are in
The Dude has beaten Daddy, by an INCH of his chin!!
I can hardly believe it, the tears well up
I watch as The Dude lifts the winner’s cup
But there standing on the podium sleek
Is my father, hardly shy or meek
He congratulates The Dude without a hint of jealousy
And that’s why my Dad’ll always be a champ to me!!
